With a gray filter or neutral density filter (ND filter), the exposure time can be lengthened. This way, people or vehicles are not visible in the picture, which can be useful when you want to take architectural photos without staff. This way, anyone can take impressive architectural photos.
The gray filter reduces the amount of light entering through the lens, which allows the use of a larger aperture. This is necessary when the object to be photographed should stand out against a blurred background, or when a long exposure is to create a smear or flow effect. For example, falling water can be photographed better, especially if the shooting light is too bright.
This gray filter has a neutral density of ND3.0
This is equivalent to a 1000x loss factor or 10 f-stops.
Notice:
This gray filter usually does not affect the automatic exposure metering of the camera. It can therefore also be used in all automatic modes (e.g. P, Av, Tv). With some DSLRs, however, it may be necessary to cover the viewfinder so that the exposure metering is not distorted by incident light.
