The battery in your flash always seems to run out at the worst possible moment—usually right before cutting the cake or in the middle of a portrait session. Having a second, fully charged battery in your bag saves you ten seconds of swap time instead of missing a shot. The VB30 is the battery that’s already inside your Godox flash, making it the obvious choice for a spare.
- For Godox flash units with a VB30 battery, including the V1Pro, V100, and MF-T76
- 2980 mAh capacity, good for about 500 flashes at full power
- Charges directly via USB-C, no separate charger needed
- Changing the battery in the flash takes seconds—no tools required
- Not to be confused with the VB26, which is designed for other Godox flashes
The battery that doesn’t need a charger
Charges via USB-C
The VB30 has a built-in charging port. You can connect it to the same cable you use to charge your phone or camera, plug it into a power bank, or connect it to your laptop. When traveling, this saves you from having to bring a power adapter, and in your hotel room, you can charge everything from the same power strip in the evening.
2980 mAh for long shoots
About 500 flashes at full power are enough for most occasions. If you work at reduced power—which is the norm for TTL indoors—you’ll get significantly more out of the battery. This figure applies to full power and is therefore the lower limit, not the ideal value. It may vary slightly depending on the flash unit.
Here’s what it looks like in everyday use
Wedding from the cocktail hour to the dance
A day like this lasts over ten hours, and you’ll be using the flash from group photos all the way into the dark ballroom. With a second VB30 in your bag, you can swap it out during the break between set changes instead of in the middle of a speech. Meanwhile, the empty battery is plugged into the power bank and will be ready again by evening.
Macro series in the field
When shooting macro flash, you often sit in the same spot for hours, taking many shots in quick succession. That’s exactly when the battery drains faster than expected. A second VB30 in your backpack saves the day, and since it charges via USB-C, you can plug it into the power bank whenever you have a moment.
What You Should Know Before You Order
Godox Makes Two Similar Batteries
The VB30 and the VB26 look similar but aren’t interchangeable. The VB26 is compatible with the V1, the V860III, and the Ring 72 Macro Light, among others. The safest way to check is to look at the battery currently in your flash: the model number is printed there. If you’re unsure, give us a call—we can clear this up in two minutes. You can find the right battery for the other series in the flash accessories.
You don’t necessarily need a charger
You can charge the VB30 directly via USB-C. A separate charger is only worth it if you want to charge multiple batteries at the same time or continue using the flash while it’s charging. For your first spare battery, the cable you already have with you is sufficient.
