Lens caps in all sizes
Lens caps are one of those things you tend to lose, usually at the worst possible moment. Here you'll find replacement caps in all standard diameters from 37 to 82 mm, as well as rear caps, body caps, and models designed for specific cameras.
Finding the Right Cap
The diameter is marked on the front of your lens after the symbol ø, usually along with the filter thread. Common sizes are 37, 40.5, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77, and 82 mm. You’ll need this number; the camera model doesn’t matter.
A point many people overlook
Don’t measure the cap against the old one; instead, read the value directly from the lens. Caps are designated by the filter thread they snap into, not by their outer diameter. A cap for a 58 mm lens is significantly larger on the outside than 58 mm.
Inner or outer grip
Older caps are compressed at the edge and are almost impossible to grip with a lens hood attached. Modern caps have springs on the inside and are pressed in the middle with two fingers. This means they can still be removed even when the hood is mounted. If you leave your lens hood attached permanently, this is a more important consideration than the price.
Rear cap and body cap
The rear cap protects the rear lens element and the contacts and is mount-specific—meaning it varies depending on whether you’re using a Canon RF, Nikon Z, Sony E, or Fuji X mount. The same applies to the body cap, which covers the camera when no lens is attached. Both belong in every camera bag as soon as you start changing lenses on the go, because dust on the rear lens or sensor is far more annoying than a fingerprint on the front.
Caps with a cord
If you regularly lose your lens caps, you can get holders that secure the cap to the lens or to the strap with a cord. It doesn’t look very elegant, but it’s cheaper than buying a fifth replacement cap.
