Screw-on filters for your lens

Screw-in filters are the simplest solution: just screw them on, take your photo, and you’re done. No mount, no system, no accessories. Here you’ll find ND filters, polarizing filters, UV and protective filters, black mist filters, and infrared filters from Haida in all standard diameters, plus magnetic versions for quick changes.

ND Filter Grey Filter 12 apertures from Haida
ND Filter 12 apertures from Haida
ND filter 12 apertures with filter thread from Haida The Haida Slim grey filter ND 3.6 is a thicker grey filter, which is often referred to as an extreme ND filter and is frequently used in landscape photography. It fits lenses with a filter thread. It is uniformly grey (neutral) in colour and reduces the amount of light entering the lens. The resulting reduction in exposure time by a factor of 4000 enables a slower shutter speed when taking photos.

Streak Filter Orange 82mm Rotatable Anamorphic Effect
Streak Filter Orange 82mm Rotatable Anamorphic Effect
There’s that one moment just before sunset when everything turns warm and the light streams across the frame in long streaks. This is exactly the look that cinematographers recreate with anamorphic lenses: a warm streak of light that runs across the frame as soon as a bright light source enters the shot. This filter achieves the same effect with a piece of glass placed in front of your regular lens, and because the effect is created during filming, it doesn’t look like a special effects filter. Creates an orange streak of light across the frame Warm tone regardless of the light source’s color Rotatable mount; direction of the streak can be freely adjusted 82mm thread on front and back; cap and filter still fit Can also be used on lenses with smaller threads using a step-up ring Comes in a protective carrying case Warm flare from any light source The filter provides the color The streak is orange, regardless of the color of the light in the image. A cool LED spotlight thus gains a warm streak that it would never produce on its own. That’s the reason to use this filter: It introduces a creative color into the image, rather than simply extending the existing one, and thus counteracts the cool, technical look of modern LED lighting. The rotating mount determines the direction The glass sits in its own mount, which can be rotated further after being screwed in place. So you decide whether the stripe runs horizontally across the image, vertically, or diagonally. With a fixed mount, the thread stop determines this, and it varies for each lens. 82mm in, 82mm out The filter has an 82mm thread on the front. This means your lens cap will still fit, and you can add it to an existing filter stack without having to buy anything extra. For lenses with smaller threads, you can attach the filter using a step-up ring. It must be a threaded ring; magnetic adapter rings cannot hold a screw-in filter. Here’s what it looks like in everyday use Golden Hour by the Water The sun is low and reflecting off the water; the image is full of tiny, harsh points of light. The filter transforms these into orange streaks that complement the scene’s mood. This is the situation where it looks least like a filter and most like the light itself. Concert and Stage Spotlights, fog, harsh backlighting: many point light sources against a dark background—ideal conditions. The warm streak lays over the cold stage lights and softens their technical appearance. Use the rotating mount to ensure the streaks don’t run across the face of the person at the microphone. What You Should Know Before Ordering The Orange Color Remains in the Image The strip becomes tinted as the light passes through the filter and cannot be neutralized afterward. In a cool-toned scene—such as the blue hour or neon lighting in blue and violet—the warm strip appears out of place. If you’re unsure about a subject, shoot the same shot without the filter as well—and definitely do this for video. Nothing happens without a hard light source The effect requires bright, point-like lights in the frame. Under overcast skies, in the shade, or under even studio lighting, you’ll see almost nothing except slightly reduced contrast. If you’re looking for a soft focus effect across the entire area, use a Black Mist filter; if you want halos around the lights, use a Soft Star filter. A filter with no manufacturer’s name The filter is a Chinese-made, unbranded product. There are no data sheets available regarding coating, glass type, or plane-parallelism, and we cannot guarantee that a subsequent batch will have exactly the same tint. For an effect filter that alters the image creatively anyway, this hardly matters in practice. Those who need documented specifications and consistent batches are better off with a brand-name filter. Technical Details at a Glance Mount: 82mm filter thread Front thread: 82mm, for lens caps or additional filters Effect: Light streaks from point light sources, anamorphic look Streak color: orange Mount: rotatable, streak direction freely adjustable Available only in 82mm; smaller lenses require a step-up ring Package Contents 1 x Streak Filter Orange 82mm 1 x Protective and carrying case

Streak Filter Clear 82mm Rotatable Anamorphic Effect
Streak Filter Clear 82mm Rotatable Anamorphic Effect
You’ve seen this look in movies: a streetlight, a car headlight, and a thin streak of light cutting across the frame. It’s created by anamorphic lenses used in film production, which cost a fortune. This filter produces the same streak using a piece of glass in front of your regular lens. Importantly, the effect is created during shooting, not in post-production, which is why it looks so realistic. Creates a streak across the frame from any hard light source Color-neutral streak, no blue cast over the subject Rotatable mount; direction of the streak can be freely selected Front thread included; lens cap and additional filters fit on it 82mm thread; can also be used on smaller lenses with a step-up ring Comes in a protective carrying case Anamorphic look without an anamorphic lens The rotating mount is the key feature The glass is mounted in a mount that can be rotated independently of the thread. So you screw the filter on tightly and then adjust whether the streak runs horizontally across the image, vertically, or diagonally. Without a rotatable mount, the thread’s stop determines the direction, leaving you with no choice. Color-neutral instead of blue Classic streak filters produce a blue streak because anamorphic lenses do that. This one is color-neutral. The streak takes on the color of the light source: a warm streetlight produces a warm streak, a white LED spotlight a white one. You can always colorize this in post-processing, but the reverse isn’t possible. Available only in 82mm, but fits any lens The filter is available exclusively with an 82mm thread, the largest standard diameter. If your lens has a smaller thread, simply attach a step-up ring in front of it, and the same filter will fit all your lenses. Make sure it’s a threaded ring; magnetic adapter rings cannot hold a screw-in filter. There’s a thread on the front of the filter for a lens cap or another filter. Here’s what it looks like in everyday use City at night Wet asphalt, neon signs, backlighting from headlights. This is exactly where the filter shines: The more point-like and brighter the light source in the image, the clearer the streak. Without the filter, it’s a street shot; with the filter, it’s an image that looks like it was shot on film. Backlit portrait The sun is low behind the person, casting a rim light on the hair, along with a horizontal streak across the head area. If you rotate the filter mount 90 degrees, the streak becomes vertical and no longer distracts from the face. You only have this control as long as you can rotate the filter; it’s not possible in post-processing. What You Should Know Before Ordering The Filter Requires Hard Light Sources Without a point light source in the image, not much happens. Under overcast skies, in diffuse shade, or with even studio lighting, you’ll hardly see any effect—perhaps just a slight reduction in contrast. The filter is a tool for night shots, backlighting, and harsh lights—not for every shot. If you’re looking for a soft, diffuse blur across the entire image, you’re better off with a Black Mist Filter; if you want sunbursts, a Soft Star Filter is the better choice. The effect is in the image and stays there Once the filter has applied its effect, you can’t undo it during post-processing. While this is standard practice for video, with photos you should consider whether you’d like to capture the same scene without a filter as well. A streak in the wrong place on a face can’t be fixed later. A filter without a brand name This filter is a Chinese-made, unbranded product. There are no data sheets available regarding coating, glass type, or plane-parallelism, and we cannot guarantee that a later batch will look exactly the same. For an effect filter that alters the image anyway, this isn’t a problem in practice. If you rely on documented specifications and consistent production runs, choose a brand-name filter. Technical Details at a Glance Mount: 82mm filter thread Front thread: available, for lens caps or additional filters Effect: light streaks from point light sources, anamorphic look Streak color: neutral, no color cast Mount: rotatable, streak direction freely adjustable Available only in 82mm; smaller lenses require a step-up ring Package Contents 1 x Streak Filter Clear 82mm 1 x Protective and carrying case

82 mm Rainbow Rotatable Streak Filter with Anamorphic Effect
82 mm Rainbow Rotatable Streak Filter with Anamorphic Effect
Hold a CD at an angle to the light and see what happens: A white dot turns into a colored band. That’s exactly what this filter does with the light sources in your photo. Where a white spotlight would normally be, a strip runs across the shot, breaking the light down into its constituent colors. The effect is created during shooting, using the light that was actually there. Breaks down bright light sources into a colored stripe Prism effect that changes depending on the brightness of the light source Rotatable mount; direction of the stripe can be freely adjusted 82mm thread on front and back; cap and filter still fit Can also be used on lenses with smaller threads using a step-up ring Comes in a protective carrying case A prism in front of the lens The colors come from the light itself The filter refracts the passing light and fans it out along the strip. White and cool light sources show this most clearly because they contain all colors. With a warm incandescent bulb, the fan is narrower and more golden. The effect therefore reacts to the light in the scene, rather than always looking the same. The rotating mount determines the direction The glass sits in its own mount, which can be rotated further after being screwed in place. This allows you to determine whether the strip runs horizontally, vertically, or diagonally across the image. Without this mount, the direction is determined by the thread stop, which is located in a different place on every lens. 82mm in, 82mm out There’s another 82mm thread on the front. Lens caps and other filters fit just as before, and you can insert the filter into an existing stack. You can connect lenses with smaller threads using a step-up ring. The ring requires a thread; magnetic adapter rings cannot accommodate a screw-in filter. Here’s what it looks like in everyday use Neon and Storefronts at Night Cold neon signs, LED letters, spotlights in the rain: many harsh light sources against a dark background—and that’s exactly what the filter uses to create its color bands. With a white light source, you’ll see the full spectrum; this is the filter’s most striking application. Backlit portrait With a light source right next to the head, the colored streak runs across the image instead of across the face as soon as you rotate the filter frame appropriately. You control the intensity of the effect by adjusting the light source’s position within the frame: slightly off-center is usually enough; placing it right in the center quickly makes it too strong. What You Should Know Before You Order This is the most striking of the three streak effects A colored streak immediately catches the viewer’s eye, and in the twentieth shot of a series, it can quickly start to look like a gimmick. It’s effective for individual shots and music videos, but not for an entire wedding photo essay. Use it selectively rather than throughout the entire shoot, so the effect remains impactful. The colors remain in the image What the filter splits apart, you won’t be able to put back together during editing. This is true for video anyway; for photos, it’s worth taking an additional shot without the filter. A colored stripe across the face can’t be corrected later. Nothing happens without a hard light source The effect requires bright, point-like highlights in the image. Under overcast skies or with uniform studio lighting, you’ll hardly see anything except a slight reduction in contrast. And like the other two versions, this filter is a Chinese-made, unbranded product: there are no data sheets regarding coating, glass type, or plane-parallelism, and we cannot guarantee that a subsequent batch will be exactly the same. If you need documented specifications, choose a brand-name filter—for example, the Black Mist Filter for soft focus, or the Soft-Star Filter. Haida NanoPro IR720 Filter
Haida NanoPro IR720 Filter
Infrared filter IR720 Infrared photography, or IR photography as it is known for short, is fundamentally different in that it takes place outside the spectral range visible to us humans. Only the sensor in the camera "translates" the image that is not visible to us into a visible one. This special infrared filter (also known as a black filter because it appears almost opaque to the human eye) is necessary to block out the visible light, as this is the only way to create an infrared image.

Which screw-in filter do you need?

Two to three filters cover almost every situation you’ll encounter in practice. The following overview will help you figure out which one to choose; details are provided in the respective subcategories.

The Selection

Polarizing filter removes reflections from water, glass, and foliage and makes colors richer. It’s the only filter whose effect cannot be simulated in post-processing. For landscape photography, this is the first filter you should buy.

ND filters reduce light and allow for long exposure times in daylight. Ideal for creating a soft, watery effect and capturing moving clouds.

Variable ND covers a wide range of densities in a single filter. Practically indispensable for video shooting.

UV and protective filters protect the front lens from dust, sand, and splashes.

Black Mist tones down highlights and gives the image a cinematic look.

Infrared filters for infrared photography with white foliage and a black sky.

The Right Size

The diameter is marked on the front of your lens after the symbol ø; common sizes are 49, 52, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77, and 82 mm. However, you don’t need to buy multiple filters: Purchase the largest diameter you need and adapt it to all smaller lenses using step-up rings. It doesn’t work the other way around—a filter that’s too small will darken the corners of the image.

Magnetic Instead of Screw-On

An adapter ring stays permanently in the thread; the filter is held in place magnetically and can be changed in a second. This is worth it if you change the filter density multiple times in varying light conditions, and it prevents filters from getting stuck at an angle and becoming impossible to remove. Available at magnetic filters.

When screw-in filters reach their limits

As soon as you want to combine multiple filters, the stack in front of the lens becomes too high and causes vignetting. And a graduated neutral density filter cannot be shifted to align with the horizon line once it’s screwed on. For both of these situations, you’ll need a slot-in filter system with a holder.
