This is exactly the look that cinematographers recreate with anamorphic lenses: a warm streak of light that runs across the frame as soon as a bright light source enters the shot. This filter achieves the same effect with a piece of glass placed in front of your regular lens, and because the effect is created during filming, it doesn’t look like a special effects filter.

Warm flare from any light source

The filter provides the color

The streak is orange, regardless of the color of the light in the image. A cool LED spotlight thus gains a warm streak that it would never produce on its own. That’s the reason to use this filter: It introduces a creative color into the image, rather than simply extending the existing one, and thus counteracts the cool, technical look of modern LED lighting.

The rotating mount determines the direction

The glass sits in its own mount, which can be rotated further after being screwed in place. So you decide whether the stripe runs horizontally across the image, vertically, or diagonally. With a fixed mount, the thread stop determines this, and it varies for each lens.

82mm in, 82mm out

The filter has an 82mm thread on the front. This means your lens cap will still fit, and you can add it to an existing filter stack without having to buy anything extra. For lenses with smaller threads, you can attach the filter using a step-up ring. It must be a threaded ring; magnetic adapter rings cannot hold a screw-in filter.

The sun is low and reflecting off the water; the image is full of tiny, harsh points of light. The filter transforms these into orange streaks that complement the scene’s mood. This is the situation where it looks least like a filter and most like the light itself.

Concert and Stage

Spotlights, fog, harsh backlighting: many point light sources against a dark background—ideal conditions. The warm streak lays over the cold stage lights and softens their technical appearance. Use the rotating mount to ensure the streaks don’t run across the face of the person at the microphone.

What You Should Know Before Ordering

The Orange Color Remains in the Image

The strip becomes tinted as the light passes through the filter and cannot be neutralized afterward. In a cool-toned scene—such as the blue hour or neon lighting in blue and violet—the warm strip appears out of place. If you’re unsure about a subject, shoot the same shot without the filter as well—and definitely do this for video.

Nothing happens without a hard light source

The effect requires bright, point-like lights in the frame. Under overcast skies, in the shade, or under even studio lighting, you’ll see almost nothing except slightly reduced contrast. If you’re looking for a soft focus effect across the entire area, use a Black Mist filter; if you want halos around the lights, use a Soft Star filter.

A filter with no manufacturer’s name

The filter is a Chinese-made, unbranded product. There are no data sheets available regarding coating, glass type, or plane-parallelism, and we cannot guarantee that a subsequent batch will have exactly the same tint. For an effect filter that alters the image creatively anyway, this hardly matters in practice. Those who need documented specifications and consistent batches are better off with a brand-name filter.
