Godox ES01 Electric Suction Mount

You want a small light right where a tripod won’t fit. On the windowpane, so the product is backlit. Under the kitchen cabinet above the countertop. On the tiled wall in the bathroom, because there’s nothing else there to clip it to. A tripod needs the floor; a clamp needs an edge. The Godox ES01 just needs a smooth surface.

A second light without a second tripod

Motor instead of a lever

The suction cup tightens itself—you just press it against the surface. That’s the difference from the lever-style models you find at hardware stores: With those, the pressure from your hand determines how secure the connection is, and you only know it’s secure when it gives way. To release it, you press a button, the vacuum is released, and the mount drops into your hand.

Cold shoe and threaded mount included

The mount features a cold shoe with a 1/4-inch thread. You can slide a mini hot-shoe flash directly into it, and anything with a tripod thread can be screwed on. The shoe has no electrical contacts, so triggering is done via radio or the flash’s own photocell. The appropriate Allen wrench for the screw connection is included in the box.

The main light is in place, but the edge of the object fades into the background. A mini LED like the Litemons LED6Bi on the suction cup mount, attached to the windowpane behind the setup, and the edge is back in focus. Setting up a tripod for this would be in the shot.

Flash on the shelf or under the cabinet

For small rooms where a flash needs to illuminate from diagonally above: An iT32 mounted on the cold shoe on the underside of the cabinet illuminates the work surface without a tripod leg getting in the way. It’s triggered wirelessly by the transmitter on the camera.

What You Should Know Before You Order

360 g is the absolute limit

That’s the key number. It’s sufficient for the mini flashes and small Litemons lights that Godox approves for use with this mount. It’s not enough for a camera or for large hot-shoe flashes. If you want to mount a camera on a window, this is the wrong mount; for that, there are kits like the SmallRig SC-15K.

The surface must be smooth and clean

Glass, tile, paint, sealed wood: all work well. Wood-grain wallpaper, plaster, untreated wood, and any textured surfaces: won’t hold, not even briefly. Dust and grease on the surface reduce adhesion, so wipe the surface clean beforehand. And if in doubt, place something soft under a mounted holder while you’re monitoring it for the first time.

The suction cup needs power

The pump runs on a built-in rechargeable battery, which is charged via USB-C on the device. The included cable has a USB-A connector on the other end and is about 30 cm long. So if you only have power adapters and power banks with USB-C ports, you’d better have your own cable ready. And you should charge it before use—don’t wait until you’re at the top of the ladder to realize it’s out of juice. If you want a mounting solution that requires no power or charging, you’re better off with the MA02 Magnetic Mounting Kit, provided there’s a ferrous surface nearby.
