Snapped together instead of folded

The diffuser comes as a six-piece kit: The carbon-look parts snap together via a central tab and side push buttons to form a semicircular horseshoe shape; then you clip in the white reflectors. Assembly takes just one minute without tools, and once assembled, it retains its shape—it cannot be folded down small. A carrying case is included for transport and storage.

How the soft light is created

The diffuser sits in front of your hot-shoe flash and extends around the front of the long macro lens. The harsh flash light hits the white reflectors and is redirected onto the subject from above and below. Instead of a harsh, sharp shadow, you get soft, all-around illumination that reveals fine details.

Fits many cameras

Because the diffuser attaches to the lens and sits above the flash—and isn’t tied to a specific mount—it works across brands with mirrorless cameras and DSLRs from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and others. What matters is the size of your lens, not the brand.

A 90mm or 100mm macro lens gives you more distance from the subject, so you don’t scare away shy insects. The diffuser softens the flash light, preventing the beetle from reflecting the light and preserving details in its shell and wings.

On flowers, mushrooms, or small products, the diffused light reveals delicate color gradients and fine textures without overexposing them with harsh highlights. Even when backlit, you’ll get clean, well-balanced shots.

What You Should Know Before You Order

Flash and Focus Light Not Included

The package includes the six diffuser parts with a carrying case, but no flash unit or light source. The diffuser shapes the light from your existing clip-on flash; you can find a compatible one in the Clip-on Flash category. For dark subjects, you can also attach a mini focus light, which is available separately in the Macro Light category.

For long macro lenses starting at 90 mm

This size is designed for 90mm and 100mm macro lenses and is therefore the largest in the series. It’s oversized for a shorter, compact macro lens; a smaller version would be a better fit in that case. The key factor is how far your lens protrudes forward. You’ll need to assemble the diffuser from its six parts before using it for the first time. This can be done quickly and without tools, but you should be aware of this if you’re expecting a fully assembled product. Once assembled, it retains its shape and is ready for immediate use.
