When the blower no longer does the job and the spots in the sky stay put, your sensor needs a wet clean. At 17 mm, Sensor Swab Ultra Type 2 is matched exactly to APS-C and Micro Four Thirds sensors, individually sealed and made of lint-free material that lifts oil and stuck-on dust in one pass.

  • 12 individually sealed swabs for wet cleaning APS-C and Micro Four Thirds sensors
  • Width 17 mm (Type 2)
  • Clean-room sealed, lint-free, with a textured surface and end points for cleaner corners
  • Guaranteed safe for sensor coatings, according to the manufacturer

A clean sensor in one pass

The right width, no second wipe

At 17 mm the swab covers the full height of a APS-C and Micro Four Thirds sensor: drag one side firmly across the sensor, then come back with the clean side. The textured surface picks up the dirt instead of pushing it to the edge, and the end points reach into the corners.

Clean until you use it

Every swab is sealed in its own clean-room package, so you don't bring fresh dust onto the sensor, even after the box has ridden around in your bag for months.

How this works in practice

Before an important job

Test shot against a blue sky at f/16, and the spots show. Two drops of Eclipse or Aeroclipse on the swab, one pass across the sensor, new test shot. You're ready in five minutes without sending the camera away for days.

Fits your camera

Type 2 is designed for Fujifilm X series, Sony A6000 series, Canon APS-C (EOS R7, R10, R50 and EOS DSLRs), Nikon DX (D3000 to D5600), Olympus OM-D and Panasonic Lumix G.

What you should know before you order

Check the width

A swab that's too narrow leaves streaks, one that's too wide won't fit the sensor well. For full frame you need Type 3 (24 mm), for APS-H and older pro Nikon DX bodies Type 1 (20 mm). If in doubt, check the Photographic Solutions swab chart.

Fluid sold separately, one swab per clean

The swabs come dry, so you also need Eclipse or the non-flammable Aeroclipse. Each swab is single-use. On cameras with a moving sensor (IBIS), switch to cleaning mode or lock the sensor first.

Photographic Solutions Purified Hepa Filtered Rocket Style Blower
Photographic Solutions Orbit HEPA Blower for Sensor and Lens
An ordinary blower pulls in surrounding air, dust and all, and fires it straight at your sensor. The Orbit works differently: incoming air passes through a filter, one-way valves at both ends stop dirt from flowing back, and the ionising silicone bulb helps loosen statically attached particles. Blower with NIOSH-rated filter for clean air One-way valves at both ends Ionising silicone bulb against static-bound dust According to the manufacturer, used by NASA on the ISS for instrument sensors Dust gone without touching the sensor Filtered air, not a dust cannon The filter holds back particles from the incoming air before they reach the nozzle. You blow dust off the sensor instead of blowing new dust onto it. Helps with statically attached particles Dust held to the sensor by static is hard to shift with plain air. The ionising silicone bulb helps neutralise that charge so the particles blow away more easily. How this works in practice The first step of every clean Before any swab or cloth touches your optics, the Orbit comes first. Hold the camera mount facing down, give the sensor a few firm puffs, and loose dust falls out. Often that's all the cleaning you need. Not just for cameras The Orbit also works for lenses, filters, scanners, telescopes, microscopes and VR headsets. What you should know before you order Oil needs a wet clean A blower removes loose and static-bound dust. Oil spots or stuck particles stay, and for those you need Sensor Swab Ultra with Eclipse or Aeroclipse. Never put the nozzle inside the camera Keep the nozzle just in front of the mount and don't touch the sensor or shutter with it. On DSLRs, lock the mirror up via the cleaning mode first. Photographic Solutions Eclipse Optic Cleaner 15ml
Photographic Solutions Eclipse Optic Cleaning Fluid 15 ml for Sensor, Lens and Filter
Fingerprints on the front element, streaks on the filter, spots on the sensor: water or glasses cleaner won't get them off without leaving new residue. Eclipse is a high-purity, methanol-based cleaning fluid that evaporates as fast as you apply it and leaves absolutely no residue. High-purity cleaning fluid for sensors, lenses and filters Evaporates instantly, no residue With Sensor Swab Ultra for CCD and CMOS sensors With PEC-PAD for lenses and filters One fluid for your whole kit Residue-free, even on coated surfaces Because Eclipse contains next to no contaminants, nothing stays on the glass once it has evaporated. That's exactly what you want on sensors and coated lenses, where any film shows up in backlight. The standard for sensor cleaning Together with Sensor Swab Ultra, Eclipse is the classic combination for wet sensor cleaning. Two or three drops on the swab are enough. How this works in practice Lens and filter before the shoot A few drops on a folded PEC-PAD, wipe lightly in one direction from the centre outwards, done. Refold the pad so you always work with a clean side. Sensor cleaning at home Blow off loose dust first, then put Eclipse on a Sensor Swab and drag it firmly across the sensor, coming back with the clean side. This handles oil spots that no blower will shift. What you should know before you order Eclipse is flammable Due to its high methanol content, Eclipse is flammable. Keep it away from open flames and heat. If you need a non-flammable option for travel, Aeroclipse offers the same cleaning power. Light pressure, little fluid The manufacturer notes that prolonged, aggressive rubbing with Eclipse can remove coatings. Work gently and never scrub one spot for long. Swabs and PEC-PADs are not included; PEC-PADs are not meant for sensors. Aeroclipse Digital Sensor Cleaning Fluid
Photographic Solutions Aeroclipse Sensor Cleaning Fluid 15 ml, non-flammable
Dust can be blown away, oil and grease spots on the sensor can't. That's exactly what Aeroclipse is made for: a few drops on a Sensor Swab, one pass across the sensor, and the fluid evaporates quickly without residue. Unlike classic Eclipse, Aeroclipse is non-flammable, which makes it the better choice for travel and your camera bag. Cleaning fluid for CCD and CMOS sensors Same purity and cleaning power as Eclipse, but non-flammable Dries fast and leaves no streaks Also suitable for lenses and filters Clean sensors, no streaks Removes what the blower can't Stubborn particles, pollen and oil spots from the shutter stick to the sensor and show up as dark spots at f/11 and smaller. Aeroclipse loosens this contamination so the swab can pick it up instead of just smearing it around. Approved by the manufacturer for all sensors Photographic Solutions approves Aeroclipse for all common sensors and their coatings, so there's no guessing whether the fluid suits your camera. How this works in practice After a day of lens changes outdoors Landscape, wind, several lens swaps: by evening the first spots appear in the sky. With Aeroclipse and the right Sensor Swab your sensor is clean again in a few minutes, no need to send the camera in. One bottle for sensor, lens and filter A few drops on a PEC-PAD also clean front elements and filters. On the road you only need one bottle for your whole kit. What you should know before you order Swabs are not included Aeroclipse is the fluid only. For sensor cleaning you also need Sensor Swabs in the right width for your sensor size (Type 1, 2, 3 or 4). PEC-PADs are for lenses and filters only, not for the sensor. Use it sparingly Two to three drops per swab are enough. Too much fluid leads to streaks rather than a cleaner sensor. On cameras with a moving sensor (IBIS), switch to cleaning mode or lock the sensor before you start.
