Slide-Rail Mount for Godox MF12 Macro Flash

On cameras with a tall, «raised» hot shoe – think mirrorless bodies with a big viewfinder hump – the Godox MF12 often sits too far back and too high: the light hits your macro subject at an angle from above instead of cleanly from the front. On the Guage slide rail you simply move the flash forward over the lens. The result is even, frontal close-up lighting even on bulky camera bodies.

Slide the flash freely along the rail

When the hot shoe sits high, close-up light tends to spill in from above and behind, with hard shadows under the subject. On the rail you slide the flash far enough forward to sit over the front element again and light your subject head-on. The rail is a fixed length; you just position the flash where it suits your lens and lock it there.

More control over light direction

Because you slide the flash freely along the rail, you decide the distance and angle the light reaches your subject from. In macro, where a few millimetres decide between highlight and shadow, that gives you noticeably more room to work than the fixed position right in the hot shoe.

Real-world scenario

You are shooting a mirrorless body with a tall viewfinder hump and a longer macro lens. Sitting directly in the hot shoe, the MF12 would hang just behind the front element and cast shadows. Slid forward on the rail, the flash sits up front and the light comes head-on – detail shots come out even instead of patchy.

What to know before you order

For the Godox MF12

This mount is built for the Godox MF12 macro flash. It will not necessarily fit other flash models – make sure you are actually using the MF12 before you buy.

Fixed rail length

The rail does not extend – it is a fixed length along which you slide the flash. The adjustment range is therefore set by the rail length; for very long lenses, check that the front stop reaches far enough.

No diffuser included

You get the slide-rail mount only – a diffuser or soft-light cover is not included. If you also want to soften the hard flash, you will need a separate diffuser for that.

Flash and lens not included

You are buying the mount only. The Godox MF12, the camera and the lens are not part of the delivery.
